RAM
Random Access Memory. The primary memory in a computer that can be written over with new information. The contents of RAM memory are lost when the electrical power to the PC is switched off.
RAS
Remote Access Service.

RJ-11
The “common” telephone jack. Usually wired with four wires, the red and green signify the tip and ring circuits.
RJ-45
The “common” telephone jack. Usually wired with eight wires, the red and green signify the tip and ring circuits.

Read Only Memory.
root directory
in an IBM or compatible PC, the directory that is created when the user formats a diskette that may contain subdirectories. Synonymous with system directory.
